Vimeo OTT pricing is based on a revenue-share structure:
- For each subscriber (SVOD) transaction: $1 per subscriber per month + merchant fees of 2.5% + $0.30 per transaction.
- For each pay-per-view (TVOD) transaction: 10% + $0.50 per transaction.
- OTT video apps:
- $6000 per year per app, paid upfront OR
- $24,000 per year for all apps, paid upfront
- Coupons: $1 per promo code after 100 codes per month.
- Uploading video hours fee: One free hour of video uploading, after which you must purchase more video upload hours at :
- 10 hours = $99
- 25 hours = $149
- 50 hours = $199
This pricing model is called a Revenue Share model, where your fee for Vimeo OTT/VHX increases exponentially every time you add new subscribers

So which platform will cost you less?
The answer to that question depends on how much you plan to grow and where you see your video streaming business going.
If you don’t see yourself ever having more than a few subscribers or launching any OTT video apps, Vimeo OTT/VHX is definitely the more affordable option for you.
Vimeo OTT/VHX is a good option for those who…
- just need somewhere to host a maximum of one hour of video,
- know their subscriber base will never exceed 100 users,
- will never want OTT apps (because honestly $6000 upfront a year per app is just way too expensive)
- have no plans to grow their video service and don’t need robust marketing tools (which we will talk about in the next sections)
- will never want to migrate from Vimeo OTT to another platform
However, if you plan to grow beyond 100 subscribers and add OTT apps to your VOD service, Vimeo OTT becomes and extremely expensive and unfair option. 2. Fixed contracts and migratability: read the fine print very carefully
Break-ups can be hard, but we can be mature about them.
If you start your VOD business with Uscreen but realize at any point that we might not be the right fit for you, it would be your absolute prerogative to migrate away. We’ll be sad to see you go, but we will do everything we can to help you have a smooth transition to your next chosen VOD platform.
Vimeo OTT, however, is notorious for making it hard to migrate your VOD business to any other platform
Vimeo OTT locks their clients in their platform in two main ways:
1. Fixed 2 to 3-year contracts:
Vimeo OTT requires you to sign a 2 to 3-year contract with them to launch mobile and TV OTT apps.
We have also heard that they offer discounts and free apps for a year in exchange for a 3 to 4-year contract; so if they offer you a price deal, be sure to read the terms carefully.
The thing about Vimeo’s contracts is that we have yet to see a single one of their customers succeed in getting out of one. Vimeo is a powerful corporation owned by IAC, a New York-based conglomerate that makes sure these contracts are airtight.
These contracts are written up by Vimeo’s legal team on a case-by-case basis, so it can be different in your case. Just be sure to read the fine print carefully and consult a lawyer to be sure you’re not being exploited.
2. Audience data ownership:
To migrate from Vimeo OTT to any other VOD platform, you need to have access to your audience data.
That specifically includes your audience’s billing information. Without their billing information, you can’t migrate them to another platform.
Vimeo OTT makes it very hard to extract audience data from their platform, which can leave much of the information trapped in their platform.
You would basically have to forget about the audience-base you already have on your Vimeo OTT platform and start from scratch on your new platform.
They make it that way so if you migrate away you’re worse off, decreasing your chances of leaving.

4. Client Support: Can Vimeo OTT help you with your technical issues
Support is another way of saying “peace of mind”. According to what we’ve heard and experienced first hand, that’s not something Vimeo OTT necessarily offers.
Here are three things you need to know about Vimeo OTT’s client support:
- Vimeo OTT’s support is only available via email: you can only get a hold of Vimeo’s support by submitting a request through their Zendesk
- Vimeo OTT uses the same support as Vimeo: Vimeo OTT does not have it’s own designated client support team, meaning all their issues, tickets, and inquiries go to Vimeo, the parent company. And as you can imagine, that tends to be a slow disaster.
- Vimeo does not offer 24/7 customer support: For live streaming, for example, users can access only email support within one hour (weekdays) and chat support (U.S. business hours).
